Congo says Ugandan rebels fleeing toward CAR

Ugandan rebels accused of killing hundreds of Congolese civilians are fleeing a joint offensive by three African armies and heading toward Central African Republic, Congo's government said Friday.

The coalition of forces from Congo, Uganda and Sudan has "completely destroyed" the rebel positions in northeast Congo's Garamba National Park, government spokesman Lambert Mende said.

But not all of the Lord's Resistance Army rebel group's bases have been entirely dismantled, he said, calling the offensive "80 percent successful" three weeks after it was launched.

Edson Buddle scored a first-half goal to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 1-0 win over Chivas USA on Saturday night as David Beckham watched from a suite alongside Zinedine Zidane.

Earlier Saturday, Beckham said teammate Landon Donovan was "unprofessional" for criticizing him in a soon-to-be released book without confronting him first. Beckham was back with the Galaxy after a five-month loan to Italy's AC Milan.

Los Angeles (4-3-9) won its season-high third straight game, its longest streak since reeling off six straight in 2007.

MARIA LIND ON THE CURATORIAL

IS THERE SOMETHING we could call the curatorial? A way of linking objects, images, processes, people, locations, histories, and discourses in physical space? An endeavor that encourages you to start from the artwork but not stay there, to think with it but also away from and against it? I believe so, and G imagine this mode of curating to operate like an active catalyst, generating twists, turns, and tensions - owing much to site-specific and context-sensitive practices and even more to various traditions of institutional critique. The curatorial would thus parallel Chantal Mouffe's notion of "the political," an aspect of life that cannot be separated …

At least 18 people were injured Sunday as thousands of demonstrators massed in the heart of Thailand's capital to demand the ouster of the three-month-old government of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej.

An Associated Press reporter saw rocks, bottles and other objects injure at least 18 anti-government protesters and their opponents as they clashed before riot police moved in to separate the opposing sides.

The clash occurred when a member of the People's Alliance for Democracy, Praphan Khunmee, told the crowd at Bangkok's Democracy Monument that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was scheming to create a dynasty using Samak and others as his proxies. …
