Vic: Firefighters hope to reduce fires to seven by day's end

MELBOURNE, Jan 15 AAP - More than 700 firefighters continued to battle 10 fires ragingout of control in remote alpine country in Victoria's north-east overnight.

But the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) is hopeful of containinganother three fires by the end of today.

John Lloyd, the state fire coordinator from the DSE, said milder overnight temperaturesand dry conditions had allowed firefighters to backburn from control lines.
